Monty Hellam Jr. October 22, 1924 - March 22, 2016 Monterey- Monty Hellam Jr. died Tuesday March 22, 2016 in Monterey with family by his side. he was 91 years old. Monty was born October 22, 1924 in Monterey to Monty and Pauline Hellam. Monty grew up in Monterey with his sister Gloria and brother John (deceased). He married Augustina Canepa on November 1, 1952. Monty had a son James Harvey Hellam (deceased) and is survived by his two daughters Julie Cantor ( Stan, deceased) and Cynthia Brown (Rocco). Monty had many grandchildren: Jennifer Spaulding, Matthew Durney, Aaron Hellam (Lisa), Jonathan Hellam, Laura Corn, and Melissa Alpert (Mike). Monty was also blessed with three great grandchildren: Ava Martinez, Madison Alpert, and Harper Hellam. Monty was a World War II veteran serving in the Army and earned three purple hearts and a bronze star. After the war Monty and Augie played and active roll in the community of Monterey opening Monty’s Shoe Store on Alvarado St. Monty loved being a private pilot and a member of the Monterey Water Ski Club and Elks Lodge. Nothing was more important to Monty than his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, and nano.
