Obituary of Markus Alan Logterman

Obituary Markus Alan Logterman, an avid basketball and outdoors enthusiast, sadly passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020, after a very brief but tough fight with pancreatic cancer. Although brief in time, he faced it with the courage and grace that inspired all who knew him. Mark was born on August 24, 1954 in Valentine, Nebraska. He was the second child to Melvin and Vernona Logterman. Mark graduated from Vermillion High School, Vermillion, SD, where he was an honor student, participated in band, football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from the University of South Dakota-Springfield where he continued to play both football and basketball. Following graduation, Mark pursued a career in engineering and worked as an industrial engineer in the technology industry for 37 years, the majority of which was spent in the Silicon Valley of CA. Following retirement in 2016, Mark and his wife, Kay, moved from San Jose, CA to Monterey, CA. Mark, a humble, witty, gentle man, had such an enthusiasm for life. Throughout his life, Mark had many hobbies. As an adult Mark played in men’s basketball leagues, enjoyed traveling, and was always ready for an outdoor adventure, such as backpacking, hiking, bicycling and camping. Mark enjoyed his guitars and spent many hours playing over the years. Upon moving to Monterey, Mark discovered sea glass along the shores of the Monterey Bay Peninsula, and while taking in the beauty of the area, he would keep an eye out for those special pieces. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Logterman, and his sister, Nina Logterman. He was the beloved son of Vernona Logterman (Rapid City, SD); husband of Kay Logterman (Monterey, CA), father of daughters Brooke Logterman (Bilbao, Spain) and Erin (Doug Kubota) Logterman (Gilroy, CA); grandfather of Kayla Kubota (Gilroy, CA); brother of Tod (Maggie), Fairview Park, OH and Brett (Angie) Logterman, Avon Lake, OH; uncle of Max, Chloe, Owen, Noah and Gabriella. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew him. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Markus Alan Logterman, please visit our floral store.
