Obituary of Bert Saunders

Bert Saunders, 86, passed away on August 11, 2021 at home surrounded by family, after facing Parkinson’s for several years in the Monterey Bay. He was formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Bert was a good, honest man who loved his family, golf, fishing and attending church. Bert graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1954 and acquired his real estate license in 1963. He was in real estate for 58 years, with Shankle Real Estate then went on to open two offices of his own. He won the “Realtor of the Year” award in 1980. Bert’s long career concluded with Alain Penal Realty.

Bert volunteered with United Way fundraising and with AT&T Pro AM Golf Tournament for 18years. He also was a former Vice President of the Monterey Bay Symphony Orchestra. Bert also sat as Public Chairman and Caretaker at the Monterey Bay Bonsai Club.

Bert leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemarie Saunders and his daughter, Christine Saunders Hoang and her husband, Jack. His son, Steven Saunders and his wife, Juana, brother, Ron Saunders and wife Lindsey, brother, Gary Russell and wife, Anna, nephew, Ron Saunders, Jr., grandchildren, Leonardo and Giselle Saunders and his grandson, Nick Russo, was a great help to his grandfather in the last few months. Bert is also survived by numerous extended family in Minnesota along with many friends.

Bert will be greatly missed. On behalf of the family, a special “thanks’ is for Ani and Kathy for their care and to Arturo Valdez and Maria Navarro for their help.

In Bert’s honor, a private Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
